Join us for a Sunday #WineDown session, as we sample the wine, nibble on the cheese, and chat about Xóchitl González's debut novel, "Olga Dies Dreaming." I love inspiring stories and reading diverse voices, especially those which highlight a cultural perspective from the BIPOC community.
"There’s this similarity between good wine and people: The vine needs to suffer and struggle in order to produce a concentrated/complex wine. For instance: Riesling roots dig so deep into the Earth and survive among the stones. It gives some Riesling a unique minerality, taste and character. These grapes will create a wine few other vineyards can compare with not because their life was easy, but because they had to struggle to survive." - Danielle, SYNONYM
Based on the theme of our novel, our expert will introduce us to resilient varietals during our wine tasting, featuring three that ‘overcame the odds’ (weathered a tough season, went against the grain, etc). Honestly, I am not much of a wine expert (a novice) but I am always striving to learn more.
SYNONYM is a neighbourhood wine bar, bottle shop, café and book store that celebrates art, community & culture. The name reflects the shop’s many dimensions: a from-scratch kitchen focusing on local producers and farmers; a large natural wine & craft beer list; specialty coffee; and, a curated bookshop aimed at nurturing the creative community.
